About Molly Brook . . . Molly Brook Farms dates back to 1840. The farm was named after the Molly Brook, which wound its way through 160 acres of hayland, pasture, woodland and sugar bush. Today, the farm consists of 450 acres, plus 37 acres of rented ground, which produce enough hay and silage to feed all 95 milk cows, replacements and young bulls. The original barn, which housed 12 milking Jerseys, is still in use and has been expanded and remodeled to accommodate our growth. Walter and I were married in 1950. We formed a partnership with Walter's parents in 1960 by buying half the farm. In 1972, we bought the rest of Molly Brook after the death of Walter's father. We had six sons, four of whom are still living. Our son, Myles, has been farming in a partnership with us since 1984. As a family, we were active in 4-H, showing at local, state and national levels. Although we are not involved with showing cattle anymore, it makes us proud to hear that Molly Brook cattle continue to fare well in the show ring. The Molly Brook herd has been on DHIA test continuously since 1910; the longest of any herd in Vermont. We have been on DHIR test since 1965. Our 2007 AJCA lactation average is 18,674M, 876F and 693P. All of the cattle on the farm have been registered since 1917. The herd is ranked #14 in the nation for JPI (April 2008), with an average JPI of +102 and +584M, +30 and +21P on 104 cows. We also have 12 cows in the Top 1 1/2% of the breed for JPI, including dam and daughter, Molly Brook Jace Forget Me Not-ET (ranked #30) and Mollybrook Action Unforgetable-ET (ranked #180). The sale of quality Jerseys has been the focal point of Molly Brook. Animals from our herd have been sold to Jersey breeders in 23 states and 12 countries. Bulls have been exported to Guatemala, Greece, Australia and Canada. We believe in consigning from the top of our herd to state, regional and national sales. Private sales are something we also enjoy. One way we support our Jersey community is by selling good groups of Jerseys at reasonable prices, all to help young breeders get a good start. Our herd has been built on outstanding cow families. Our success as a business, though, centers on one cow family whose influence is known all over the world: Molly Brook Fascinator Flower. We are fortunate to have lived and worked with this outstanding individual and her large extended family. She has 24 Very Good or Excellent daughters and nearly 30 proven sons, grandsons and great-grandsons. She has progeny on every continent except Antarctica. Her family defines transmitting ability: generation after generation of Excellent, high-producing cows that last a lifetime.
